Frequently Asked Questions
1. How do I join the choir?
Come along to a few rehearsals, join in and sing, and then you will have an audition. This is held on a Monday evening before normal rehearsal, when most choir members have not yet arrived.
2. So I don't have to sing in front of the choir then?
No, just the conductor and one member from each of the other three sections.
3. Do I have to be able to read music to join?
Yes, you have to have to be able to read music, and be a reasonably good sight-reader.
4. Do I have to buy my own music?
All members are required to purchase a Huddersfield Singers folder. Music is borrowed for each concert by our librarian and distributed to choir members. All we ask is that you look after the score and return the music after the concert.
5. Where do you rehearse?
We rehearse at Huddersfield Methodist Mission, 15 Lord Street, Huddersfield HD1 1QA
6. On what evening do you perform concerts?
Our concerts usually start at 7:30 pm on a Saturday at various locations in and around Huddersfield.
7. What do I need to wear for concerts?
Women wear ankle-length plain black skirts and long-sleeved white tops. Men wear plain black dinner suit, white shirt and purple bow-tie (provided). Men and women sometimes wear waistcoats provided by the choir for a small deposit.
8. Who do I need to contact?
Contact Denis Murphy on denis-murphy@btconnect.com or just come along to a rehearsal.
